Couples Therapy

How does couples therapy work?

In your first session, I will make sure that you and your partner are at ease and comfortable in order to explore the issues that you have been experiencing in your relationship. We will decide on the goals you would like to achieve by attending therapy.

Also in the first session you will get a good sense of how I will work with you. This includes sharing my observations and introducing new ways of communication so that you can both feel understood by each other.

In your second session, I will take a history of your relationship and if necessary we will explore the ways that you have learnt to relate to others in your own family system.

In our future sessions, I may ask to see you and/or partner individually if I feel there is something unresolved in your past which is impacting your relationship with each other.

We aim to complete six sessions and then we will review to see if we have fully achieved the goals set out at the start of therapy.
